CFFC Educational Event: America Needs Atheists Now More Than Ever

CFFC Educational Event: America Needs Atheists Now More Than Ever

Kate Cohen is a Washington Post contributing columnist and author of "We of Little Faith: Why I Stopped Pretending to Believe (and Maybe You Should Too)." Her previous books are "The Neppi Modona Diaries: Reading Jewish Survival through My Italian Family," about a family who survived the Holocaust in Italy, and "A Walk Down the Aisle: Notes on a Modern Wedding," about the functionally outdated, but surprisingly tempting American wedding ritual.
For her columns expressing forthright atheism and questioning the deference that American culture and politics extends to religion, she will receive the 2023 Freethought Heroine Award from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
Kate will talk about her decision to "come out" as an atheist, which began as a personal one (because I couldn't teach my children things I didn't believe) and ended up political (because I think our country's deference to religion has us headed down a dangerous path). People of all faiths can stand up to the threat of a theocracy, of course, but atheists are in a special position to lead the way.

CFFC Educational Events are free and open to the public. Enjoy thought-provoking speakers, local freethought news, state/church activism, volunteer opportunities, and socializing. Come out to meet old friends and make new ones. Coffee and water will be available with snacks served during the social hour after the meeting so plan to stay a while.
