SunRail is getting ready to roll out its Southern expansion. Trains will begin picking up passengers at four new stations for the Central Florida commuter rail system at Meadow Woods, Tupperware, downtown Kissimmee and Poinciana next week. John Mica, former central Florida congressman and chair of the house transportation committee, joins us to talk about what the expansion could mean for ridership along SunRail and for the future of the system.

SunRail turned three this week. It opened to great fanfare in May 2014, and riders took advantage of free travel for the first two weeks and packed the trains. But since then, fewer people than expected have hopped aboard. We hear from the Florida Department of Transportation’s Steve Olson and from transportation writer Dan Tracy about how the fledgling commuter rail is doing, three years on.

Composer Thad Anderson plays an instrument of his own invention called a ‘Vibrakit’. It’s a combination of vibraphone and drum kit. His work ‘Northbound’, was inspired by a trip on SunRail.
