  • The U.S. census determines the number of seats each state gets in the US House of Representatives, and it's used to set federal funding for state and local governments. That's about $700 billion in federal funds spent on schools, hospitals, roads, public works and other vital programs. The Census Bureau says it might not be able to hire all of the 500,000 enumerators it needs to make a full count. Economic analyst Hank Fishkind tells 90.7's Matthew Peddie that an under count would have an impact on business too.
