Join Central Florida Public Media for a special Space on Tap featuring a live taping of Are We There Yet?, We’re celebrating Central Florida Public Media’s new podcast , When We Find Them with a interactive First Contact Party at Hourglass Brewing in Longwood.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with music from DJ Cubby and activities that invite you to imagine humanity’s first encounter with intelligent life. Decide whether we should respond, listen first, or remain silent. Tell us what excites or frightens you about making contact. Choose a song to introduce Earth to another civilization.

At 7 p.m., Are We There Yet? host Brendan Byrne will record a live episode with guest Derek Demeter, director of the Emil Buehler Planetarium at Seminole State College. Their conversation will explore how we observe and experience the cosmos, including Derek’s work photographing the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launch.

After the recording, Brendan will officially introduce When We Find Them, Central Florida Public Media’s new podcast exploring how the discovery of life beyond Earth could change science, faith, politics, culture, and the way we understand ourselves.

Then the First Contact Party continues.

Add your voice to Central Florida’s seven-word Message from Humanity. Decide whether we are truly ready for contact. Consider who should represent us. Explore conversation prompts around the brewery, hear songs submitted by guests, and help us imagine what humanity does once we hear back.

• Interactive First Contact experiences throughout the brewery
• A DJ before and after the live recording
• A special $5 event beer from Hourglass Brewing
• Free official First Contact Crew gear, including stickers, keychains, and limited T-shirts, while supplies last
• Drinks and food available for purchase from Hourglass Brewing

ADMISSION

This event is free and open to the public. RSVP is encouraged so we can plan for attendance, but Hourglass Brewing will remain open to its regular customers throughout the evening.

There is no formal doors-open time . Arrive beginning at 6 p.m. to explore the activities before the live recording.

Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. An RSVP does not guarantee a seat for the live taping.
