At Least 10 Killed in U.S. Air Strikes in Fallujah
U.S. warplanes strike a suspected safehouse of Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Fallujah. Bombs created a 30-foot crater and killed at least 10 people, including women and children, according to Iraqi witnesses. Meanwhile, three Marines are killed in a guerrilla attack in Anbar province. Militant Group in Iraq Denies Killing U.S. Marine
Conflicting reports have emerged regarding a U.S. Marine held hostage in Iraq. The Lebanese-born corporal, Wassef Ali Hassoun, is being held by militants whose website posted a claim Saturday that he was beheaded by the Army of Ansar al-Sunna. The group has since denied killing him. NPR's Philip Reeves reports.

Economist Set to Become India's Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh, a 71-year-old economist, is slated to become India's new prime minister after Congress Party leader Sonia Gandhi stunned supporters by declining the job. A former finance minister and member of India's Sikh minority, Singh oversaw the liberalizing reforms of India's economy in the early 1990s. Hear NPR's Philip Reeves.
