Conflict Zone Slows Aid For Somalia's Famine Victims
Part of Somalia affected by famine is controlled by al-Shabaab, a group on the U.S. terrorism blacklist, which places restrictions on U.S. humanitarian groups hoping to reach people in that area. The State Department is negotiating with groups to ease the rules due to the severity of the crisis.

Donald Ray Pollock On Finding Fiction Late In Life
Donald Ray Pollock worked in a paper mill and meatpacking plant for 32 years before becoming a writer. His second book The Devil All the Time is set in his hometown of Knockemstiff, Ohio, where he says "nearly everyone was connected by blood through one godforsaken calamity or another."

Study Shows Racial Wealth Gap Grows Wider
The study by the Pew Research Center says the median net worth of a white family in 2009 was 20 times greater than that of the average black family, and 18 times greater than the average Hispanic family. The gap is twice what it was before the Great Recession.
