On Hill, Geithner Seeks Expanded Powers
Timothy Geithner and Ben Bernanke had a date this morning with the House Financial Services Committee. They were both no-shows at the panel's hearing last week on AIG's bailout and executive bonuses, so today they weighed in. Since that first hearing, the House has passed a 90 percent tax on bonuses and Geithner has rolled out a plan to soak up bad bank assets.

AIG Asks Recipients To Give Back Part Of Bonus
House lawmakers grilled AIG Chief Executive Edward Liddy on Wednesday about the $165 million in bonuses paid out to executives at the firm. AIG is a major bailout beneficiary, and the bonuses have provoked outrage from congressional members as well as the public. Liddy says he has asked some of the employees to return part of the bonus.

Lawmakers Talk Tough On AIG Bonuses
The federal government has lent $170 billion to troubled insurance giant AIG to prevent its collapse. There's been criticism of that bailout, but it pales when compared to widespread outrage over the $165 million that AIG paid recently in employee bonuses. Republicans have gone on the offensive against the Obama administration, while Democrats are scrambling to recoup the bonus payments.

Duarte's Tavern: A Family Tradition For 115 Years
For decades, the Duarte family of Pescadero, Calif., has served pie and fish stew for a crowd of fervently loyal customers. The family business got its start in 1894, when a Portuguese immigrant named Frank Duarte bought the tavern and the land around it for $12 in gold.
