A look back at a conversation with Carl Hiaasen on free speech
After 35 years at the Miami Herald, journalist and novelist Carl Hiaasen retired from the paper after publishing his last opinion piece on Sunday. He won renown for his hard-hitting columns and comic crime novels. Hiaasen was on Intersection a few weeks before the presidential election in 2016. He was joined by fellow columnist and humorist Dave Barry, as well as Barbara Petersen, who served as the president of the First Amendment Foundation from 1994-2019. They discussed free speech, politics and responding to critics.

Passed last month, the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan delivers a figurative shot in the arm to the U.S. economy, while more people are getting a literal shot in the arm as the COVID vaccination rollout picks up speed. Business leaders are optimistic about the economic impact of the stimulus and the easing of the pandemic. For the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando, the pandemic triggered an emergency response as the chamber scrambled to help members stay afloat.
