Welcome to the 2018 annual report summary for 90.7 WMFE and 89.5 WMFV. We’re excited to bring you up to date on the station’s activities and highlight a few of our accomplishments from our fiscal year, October 1, 2017 – September 30, 2018.

KEY MOMENTS

1. TRAUMA AFTER TRAGEDY SERIES
In partnership with ProPublica, 90.7 WMFE reporter Abe Aboraya reported exclusively on the toll post-traumatic stress disorder takes on first responders and their families, specifically after the Pulse shooting.
2. NEW STATION GOES ON THE AIR
89.5 WMFV, our new sister station serving The Villages, Leesburg and the Golden Triangle, went on the air for the first time on March 3.

3. STATEWIDE CLIMATE CHANGE SERIES
90.7 WMFE was one of three Florida NPR member stations to partner with Florida Center for Investigative Reporting to show how climate change is affecting the state.
4. SERVING AS THE ‘SPACE STATION’
90.7 WMFE’s space reporter Brendan Byrne reported for statewide and national audiences on the big developments on the Space Coast.
5. MULTITUDE OF SUCCESSFUL EVENTS

6. AID/REPORTING TRIP TO PUERTO RICO
Staff flew to Puerto Rico in October 2017 to hand deliver a compact portable FM station to a station knocked off the air by Hurricane Maria.
7. AMPLIFY CENTRAL FLORIDA
90.7 WMFE launched the Amplify Central Florida campaign in July 2018 to give arts organizations free promotion after drastic state cuts to funding.
8. LOCAL TINY DESK CONTEST INITIATIVE
To celebrate Central Florida musicians, 90.7 WMFE ran its own friendly competition to choose local favorites from the Tiny Desk Contest entries submitted to NPR Music. The top three played at our ZipOde Throwdown, and we featured the top five on our show Intersection.
9. COMPLETED A SECOND YEAR OF SILENT FUNDRAISING
We marked two years of successful ‘silent’ fundraising in 2018. We are now committed to continuing this method of fundraising, which includes airing brief messages asking for support between programming.
10. FIVE-YEAR HIGH IN LISTENERSHIP
The year 2018 saw a five-year high in listenership, demonstrating the appeal and importance of public radio in central Florida. We have about 270,000 weekly listeners between 90.7 WMFE and 89.5 WMFV. We love to engage our audience on air, online, on mobile and in the community.
