The push to legalize medical marijuana in Florida is coming down to the wire. Supporters and opponents of Amendment 2 are working to get supporters to the polls.
Polls a year ago showed up to 70 % in favor of a constitutional amendment to legalize medical marijuana. In the last month, though, numbers have slipped to as low as 48 %.
Sarah Bascom, from the Vote No On 2 campaign, says the plan is to get as many people to the polls as possible.
“I’ve been in politics, I’ve watched this long enough, I don’t make predictions,” Bascom says. “I think it’s a razor hair. It’s very close. I think both campaigns could go either way. It’s all about who turns out and votes tomorrow.”
Bascom says the last 24 hours of the campaign are crucial.
On the other side of the debate, United for Care’s Benjamin Pollara is also trying to rally voters in support of amendment 2. Pollara says that even if the amendment fails, they will keep pushing to legalize medical marijuana.
“I think if we lose, it will be with 55-plus percent of the vote, so I think that’s still a huge majority mandate for a medical marijuana law," says Pollara.
"And we’re gonna go to Tallahassee and push for a medical marijuana law.”
