The city of Sanford was in the national spotlight in the wake of the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in 2012.

Mayor Jeff Triplett worked with the police department and clergy to better strengthen community relations and quell any potential unrest in the aftermath of the shooting and during the subsequent trial of George Zimmerman.

But now, the city’s leadership is facing scrutiny for development decisions in the area’s downtown. Mayor Triplett is up for re-election next week, and he’s facing opposition. Student and Goldsboro native William Robinson and small business owner Bob Kuhn are challenging Triplett.

90.7's Matthew Peddie speaks to the Sanford Mayoral candidates about issues affecting the city.
