During the 17th century, booming Dutch trade enabled the rise of a powerful middle class. This, along with the waning patronage system, led to the emergence of an art market that catered to the tastes of the new social class, making art available for display in private homes. This economic prosperity and growing demand for relatable imagery gave way to the Dutch Golden Age of painting, where marvelous still lifes, landscapes, and genre scenes became widely popular. The works in this exhibition illustrate the captivating charm of mundane subjects like flowers, fruits, and the natural terrain.
On long-term loan from The Grasset-Linares Collection, this selection of paintings includes traditional Dutch floral arrangements, rich banquet scenes, and detailed landscapes. This exhibition is guest curated by Sophia Foster ‘24, former Fred W. Hicks Curatorial Fellow at the RMA.

This exhibition is the result of a collaborative partnership between the UCF Art Gallery at the University of Central Florida and the Rollins Museum of Art to celebrate and support emerging professional artists working in Florida. The selection includes a variety of media, themes, scales, and approaches, showing a wide breadth of perspectives and experiences. Works by the finalists will be shown at both venues, creating opportunities for engagement with two of the area’s major academic constituencies and their surrounding communities.
This year’s finalists are Patricia L. Cooke, Samuel Aye-Gboyin, Tenee’ Hart, Jonathan Sánchez Noa, Fernando Ramos, Diego Alejandro Waisman, and Clio Yang.
The collection of the Rollins Museum of Art is constantly expanding. Generous gifts and strategic purchases enrich and diversify our holdings, offering opportunities to engage with unique works of art. This installation features recent acquisitions on a rotating basis, allowing us to share with our visitors some of our new treasures soon after they become part of the museum’s collection. The selection reflects the museum’s sustained commitment to acquiring works in various media, from different periods, and by artists of diverse backgrounds, in alignment with our teaching mission and the curriculum of a liberal arts education. You may see some of these objects in context as part of themed exhibitions in the future.
This rotation includes works by Kate Mosher Hall, Tatsuo Miyajima, and Jamies Siena, among others.

This exhibition challenges preconceptions about the act of reading by exploring experimental methods of communication and comprehension. Including works by contemporary artists in various media, Critical Reading encourages viewers to become readers through works that address political and cultural issues, memory, and storytelling through text and/as image. Artist’s books from the Rollins Book Arts Collection as well as by members of CBAA, The Association for Book Art Education, activate dialogues with works from the museum’s collection, providing opportunities to engage in critical reading from diverse perspectives.
