Pediatric cases and hospitalizations are rising in Orange County ahead of the beginning of the new school year.

The health impacts of the coronavirus go beyond the physical effects of the disease. The pandemic has also profoundly affected people’s mental health--from grief and loss to fear, disorientation and the trauma of social isolation. Eric Welch, the executive director of NAMI Greater Orlando, joins Intersection to discuss how the pandemic has impacted people’s mental health over the past year.

A $1.2 million grant will feed efforts to keep kids in Orange County from entering the juvenile justice system. The Criminal Justice, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Reinvestment Grant will help continue and expand Orange County’s Wraparound Orange program for three more years.
