Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried is joining other elected Democrats calling on Governor Ron DeSantis to loosen state residency requirements for undocumented farm workers who want COVID-19 vaccines.

At a roundtable hosted by Commissioner Nikki Fried today, Florida farmworkers called on Gov. Ron DeSantis to open vaccine sites in the rural areas where they live and work.

Many U.S. health centers that serve agricultural workers across the nation are receiving COVID-19 vaccine directly from the federal government in a program created by the Biden administration.

The shutdown of businesses and disruption to the supply chain has meant farmers can’t sell a lot of what they produce. So what does that mean for farmworkers? Antonio Tovar, general coordinator for the Farm Worker Association of Florida joins Intersection to talk about the impact of the pandemic on the people who harvest the food we eat- many of whom are now out of work and unable to pay rent.
