Open enrollment for Medicare is under way, so metro Orlando’s more than 250,000 seniors can now change plans. Here's what they need to know.
The period runs through December 7, and it’s for people already enrolled in Medicare. They can switch between Original and Advantage Plans or change Part D drug benefits. They can also pick new providers or options like medical savings accounts.

"What might be your best deal this year isn’t necessarily going to be next year. Your premiums may go up; your copays for your drugs may go up; you may not have coverage for one of your drugs next year, so it’s very important to take a look and see."
Donut Hole
Barry says the Affordable Care Act doesn’t directly affect Medicare enrollment, but it is closing the so-call “donut hole.” That’s what a senior owes for prescription drugs beyond their plan’s limit. The government says reducing the hole has saved seniors an average of $1,400 per person – with more to savings come.
